REVS GASTRIC SCOPING DAY: Wednesday 25th January
REVS, in collaboration with Randlab, will be holding a gastric scoping day in WAGGA WAGGA.
Gastric scoping is performed with a specialised gastroscope. The 3-metre fibre-optic scope (camera) is passed into the horse’s stomach to visualise any ulcers. This is done under sedation.
It is estimated that up to 90% of racehorses, 75% of sport horses, and 60% of show/pleasure horses suffer from stomach ulcers.
Signs can include:
- Poor appetite
- Dry, dull coat
- Poor condition
- Behavioural vices: crib-biting, wind-sucking, irritability
- Mild colic signs
- Poor performance
NOTE: Up to 50% of horses with stomach ulcers may not show any outward signs.
LOCATION: Wagga Showgrounds (via the west entrance, closest to the horse stables and yards) off Urana Street.
DATE: Wednesday 25th January 2017
COST: ONLY $50 per horse, PLUS free dental check up! This is a great deal as a gastric scope would normally costs upwards of $300
